John Wayne , popularly known as The Duke ,  was an American actor who began his film career in the 1920s. John Wayne was born in 1908 in Winterset, Iowa, and was called Marion Robert Morrison, although his parents changed the name to Marion Mitchell Morrison when they decided to call their next son Robert. His early years were marked by poverty. Duke was a good and popular student. He was very tall  for his age. He was a star football player at Glendale High School and was recruited by the University of Southern California (USC).
